We're only 2 months into Trump's presidency and I don't know about you, but I feel pretty overwhelmed. I don't need to tell you the long list of violent decisions he's made -- but I do need to tell you about an important and exciting opportunity to join others in learning deeply, acting on values and creating something together in the face of these dark times.
I am so excited to invite you to our next GROW (Grounded & Resilient Organizers Workshop) Climate Justice training April 27-30 to gear up for the big People's Climate Mobilization in DC!
As thousands of folks head to the nation's capitol on Saturday, April 29 to show up for our climate, our jobs, our justice as Trump marks his first 100 days of being president, this is a timely opportunity for UU young adults (18-34 years-old) and friends of diverse faiths to strengthen and renew the relationships, skills, and spiritual practices that fortify our organizing. We'd love to have you join this intentional space carved out for cultivating community and thoughtful action.
The UU College of Social Justice is teaming up with the UUYACJ Network again for another GROW session, after the first training in August 2015 and GROW Racial Justice in 2016. You can expect space to worship and sing together, reflect, share strategies and stories, and challenge yourself. We'll be getting our hands dirty with active participation in two tracks: one in Art, Culture & Community Building, and the other on Nonviolent Direct & Disruptive Actions. We'll take these techniques out on the streets at the march -- and we'll bring them with us as we continue to struggle in the long-haul.
The first GROW Climate Justice in August 2015 in Chicago was a remarkable opportunity for my own growth and development as a UU and as someone engaged in climate justice work, and I'm so excited to keep building on that momentum with y'all in DC. (You can read my reflection on last year's GROW here.)
Registration for GROW is open until April 2. Cost ranges from $100-175, and financial aid is available.
I really hope you can come! And please reach out and spread the word to other communities to join!
If you have any questions about the workshop, feel free to reach out to me (Communications Coordinator) or Aly Tharp (Network Coordinator) at uuyacj at gmail.com.
